Progress NOT perfection

Saturday Outside Training for Tri Fitness World Challenge (June 2-3, 2017)

tri-fitness training 3

As Carl Lewis once said, "It's all about the JOURNEY, not the outcome."

As I approach the final three weeks of competition training, I realize an important principle of goal setting. It's about PROGRESS, not perfection. Goals improve performance; Goals improve the quality of practices. While you may have high expectations and struggle with self-doubt (as I do!)  GOALS can also increase the motivation to achieve.

I once read that a GOAL is a dream with a time line. Every goal needs a target date for completion. Well, my target goal is June 2-3  (approx. three weeks). This year, while training I  have battled a left knee and right archilles injury, extreme fatigue and a crippling upper respiratory infection. These challenges have worried me and rocked my can-do action plan for the contest. Two of our greatest fears are: fear of being out of control and the fear of the unknown.  Each week, I attained small goals (finished fitness routine, bench press 50 reps @ 80#, and next week I will attempt box jumps)..all the while getting better, feeling stronger and feeling empowered (finally)!
